This is the first comprehensive collection ever printed about the legendary life and works of Vyacheslav Nikolaivich Zabelin ( 1935- 2002). After the years of cataloging and investigation in pursuit of various collections throughout the world, hundreds of Zabelin's paintings are finally presented in this volume. Additionally, his exemplary life is retold by written memories from his contemporaries, friends, family, and students. His genuine vision as painter and his legacy as a teacher have guaranteed his placement among the greatest Russian masters.
He inherited from his teachers, and passed on to his own students, not the apparent outer methods and manners, but the general fundamental principles: the cult of nature, subject vision, admiration of color, and coloring as the supreme blessings for the painter; the ability to measure correct color tone and excitement about the perfection of the world around us, a perfection that often manifests itself in a very simple and modest motif.
Zabelin's art is rooted in his love to earth, history, and culture. His art has become an integral part of Russian life and one of the tuning forks that the Moscow school will tune to from now on.
